Good morning!
Does anyone know how long it generally takes for the USAFA portal to reflect "qualified" after DODMERB has stamped it? My medical just got stamped "potential pilot qualified" on dodmil, but it is still showing "incomplete" on my academy portal.
Thoughts??

Spinal facet injections??

Hello everyone, it has been awhile since I have posted. Son is doing well, just completed his freshman year in NROTC.
In March he hurt his back at a SEAL training weekend. He saw the campus doc, who recommended chiropractic care (which his cadre frowned upon and suggested he wait until he got home). Now that he is home for the summer, he has seen a spine specialist that recommended physical therapy; PT did not help. Doc is now recommending a facet injection. Does anyone have any knowledge...

Disqualification for Therapy in the Past?

I'm trying to pursue an AFROTC hssp and I ended treatment about a year ago now for an anxiety disorder, with meds and some therapy. To me, the treatment did nothing and I'm almost certain that it was unnecessary, but in looking through this forum I found this link (https://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/613003p.pdf?ver=2018-05-04-113917-883) where it listed possible disqualifications to the DoDMERB. The ones that pertain to me are:

@Capt MJ good afternoon sir,I have a question about the dodmerb dq.So I’m on the verge of being d’q for history of shoulder dislocation.and I turned in all my paper work.Today I got a letter from dodmerb, and it was from navy saying that they needed more info and West Point really didn’t send a letter.it weird to me because through out the process whenever I got a remedial request ,it showed on both USNA and West Point ,But today it only shows from USNA and not West Point.I...

Current NROTC-MO Scholarship and DODMERB exam

DS is a current NROTC-MO scholarship student in his first year at a SMC. His DODMERB exam was in July 2017. It is my understanding that a DODMERB exam is good for 2 years. Does he need to have another DODMERB exam this summer? Or is it that an exam is good for 2 years if he was still applying for ROTC scholarship/academy acceptance? Your input is appreciated. Thank you!

I was born with a condition in my hand called symbrachydactyly, which basically means that my right hand is almost completely missing with the exception of a few little nubs and a tiny stump-like thumb. Is there any way I would be accepted into a military academy or am I wasting my time?

Eczema Waiver Question (application portals)

Hello all! I am currently in the process of working out a waiver for USAFA. In November, I received a principal nomination from my congressman and finished my application on time. After asking for a remedial, the DoDMERB disqualified me on January 11 for eczema. I immediately sent in 2 letters - one from my doctor and one from a doctor who graduated from USAFA. On January 25th, the Air Force Academy requested a waiver for me. It has been 6 weeks and I have not heard anything. What I am...

Does DODMERB send all disqualifications to a consultation?

I had my appointment last week, which went great, but I have been previously DQ'd before from a commissioning source (which you can read my post for more info). The doctor I spoke to said he doesnt believe it will be an issue, but I know they will at least ask for my documentation. Will they DQ me without a consultation?

Just becasue I have gotten some good feedback here - I thought I would share the outcome.

My son was just informed that his NROTC-MO waiver for D241.30 (childhood asthma) was approved. Note that
  • He knows this based on communication with people on staff in Pensacola. Apparently it could be another week or two before it shows up on the DODMERB portal.
  • He got his DQ was back in September - associated with his USNA application.
Good luck to the rest of you who are waiting...

I have been fortunate enough to receive a ISR NROTC scholarship to Emrby Riddle but am requiring waivers to activate scholarship. I haven't been contacted about the waiver process yet and am wondering if me receiving the waiver is more common since I already have the scholarship and have already been accepted and placed at ERAU Daytona.

Does the Navy's BUMED provide the medical waiver for USMMA, USNA, & NROTC?

If so, if a candidate received a medical waiver for one of the above would it apply to the others?

Bilateral Ear Surgery

Hello!
And so glad to have found this forum! DD is a freshman in HS and very, very interested in attending USMA (she is also an athlete, hoping for recruitment.) As a toddler she had tubes placed in her ear with one being more permanent - which has to be removed. We were referred to an Ear Surgery Specialist due to her abnormally small ear canals. After assessment she was diagnosed with mild conductive hearing loss - which they believe is due to the tube in the one ear. She also has a small...

Can you get into the military with Hoshimotos disease?

I went to a recruiter today and he said I can't get into the military since I have Hoshimotos disease and therefore require medication. I've heard different things from different people and don't know what to believe. Does anyone here know anything about getting in when you need medication?

Could I get waiver for Army service for Crohns that I haven't had for 18 years?

Long story short I had Crohns when I was 1 years old. They did a small intestine resection (very small part, like 1 inch) and now I haven't had Crohns for 18 years and neither require nor take any medications.

There have been others on the forum who asked if Crohns is waiverable I know, but most of them are people who have either recently had it, still take meds, or are actually still suffering from symptoms.

I don't see why I wouldn't or shouldn't get a waiver, I am not problematic.

Worried about Asthma

So I understand Asthma is a disqualifying factor if its diagnosed 13 or over. I am currently almost 20 and haven't had an asthma attack or had to use the inhaler since I was around 11 or 12 years old even with but a significant amount of exercise but I have not had it cleared with a doctor. Any recommendations and what are the chances of being disqualified?

Hello everyone,

Four year Army ROTC scholarship winner currently working through the DODMERB process. I have recieved a few disqualifications from DODMERB. My status is currently pending waiver review/submission. I am confident that these conditions are not issues that should prevent me from participating in ROTC or military service. I am wondering if going to a doctor to have them test me and put in writing that these conditions are no longer impacting me in any way would help my chances...

We've read the waiver timeframe post above, lots of posts about waivers on this page, and the info on waivers on the DodMERB website so now we're just looking for confirmation of our understanding and maybe answers to questions that probably no one actually would know the answer to...

DoDMERB portal for both USNA and USAFA says: Pending Waiver Submission/Review since December 28th.

USAFA admissions portal Application Status says: Complete but Medically Disqualified and then in the section...

Remedial and private physician

Has anyone used a private physician for your remedial as opposed to the a doctor assigned from Dodmets? The closest doctor Dodmets found is about 2 hours from my house. The website says you can go to a private physician but how does Dodmets get the records from that doctor? Am I supposed to get copies of the medical records before I leave the appointment and send to Dodmets or does the doctor send something directly to Dodmets? Can anyone tell me how it works with a private physician?
