Waiver Process

I have received a DQ on a shoulder surgery I had 4 years ago which is fine now. I play college softball and am very active. But when I had surgery I had an adverse reaction to a medication. It says I am DQ'd for that as well. On the USAFA portal it says that I am medically disqualified. When will the waiver process get started? I think I am a competitive candidate, I have received one nomination and I still have my fit assessment due to logistics issue but that will be done next week....

My DS received an LOA from USNA in October, conditional on receiving a nomination. He received his nomination last week. All is great, except he dislocated his shoulder playing lacrosse in early November. He had already been through the DODMERB exam, and was qualified prior to his injury.

He notified his admissions counselor immediately when he was injured, which then generated a remedial status at DODMERB. He was advised by the admissions counselor to start sending in medical records...

How long does it take for USNA to respond to Waiver requests??

Hi,

I got an LOA in October and a nomination this week. But when I took my physical I was unable to do well on the hearing exam. Thus DODMERB said my hearing exceeded medical accession standards, pending waiver submission request, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it usually takes them to respond with medical record requests and so forth. I called my BGO and he said to email my counselor if I don't receive any communication in two weeks.

My DD was initially DQ'ed due to a shoulder injury/surgery. She received a waiver from USMA a few weeks ago. She is still waiting on a nomination, but I would think this is a positive sign? Thanks in advance.

Approximately how long should I expect to wait for a waiver decision? It's been four weeks and I wonder if we should give it another month or not before I call and inquire. College and future plans are dependent upon this decision..Anyone know?

The Air Force Academy requested a waiver on my son November 12. How long does it typically take for a waiver decision to be rendered?

Hello gentlemen, I'll keep this short and simple. Next year I'm going to college in Puerto Rico and I have my mind set on joining the army ROTC program. Being an officer in the armed forces has been my dream since I was a kid. I am a bit worried about DodMERB and the physical you have to pass. I've had a hernia repair when I was six months old (everything went successful no problems), shoulder rotator cuff surgery, asthma that stopped when I was 12 and eczema from ages 8-12. I've checked my...

DODMERB Disqualifying Conditions?

Is one instance of blood in urine with a doctors visit involved enough to get disqualified for DODMERB if it was ten years ago and hasn't happened again since? Is it significant enough that it should be included on the DODMERB medical history? Thanks.

Baffled by Late Medical Waiver

My son was a candidate for USAFA class of 2011 and was recruited to play soccer at the academy. He was medically disqualified for an ankle injury and asthma symptoms. So, we had his orthopedic surgeon examine him and write a letter saying his ankle was sound. That was accepted by the academy. The asthma symptoms were the problem. He doesn't have asthma, but over 2 years ago went to our family doctor with seasonal allergies and the doctor wrote down "asthma symptoms." The doctor later...

Can anyone shed some light on the DoD asthma regulation? On DoD Instruction 613003p it says:

d. Airway hyper responsiveness including asthma (493.xx), reactive airway disease,
exercise-induced bronchospasm (519.11) or asthmatic bronchitis (493.90), reliably diagnosed
and symptomatic after the 13th birthday.
(1) Reliable diagnostic criteria may include any of the following elements: substantiated
history of cough, wheeze, chest tightness, and/or dyspnea which persists or recurs over a...

Color Vision Requirments

Hi, I just wanted to know what the color vision requirements are for being an air force officer. I know that you cant fly if you are color blind, but am I correct in thinking that most other jobs are available to people who have color deficiencies? I was just wondering because I know that the navy is very strict with regards to color vision and that the army just has the vivid red/green color requirement. Thanks.

Surgery Waiver

Good afternoon,

I received maxillofacial (jaw) surgery in October '15, which is considered a disqualifier. Is there any specific information I can attain and forward to DoDMERB to support a waiver?

Additional info:
I am active duty
The surgery was completed by military Drs
Surgery was a part of orthodontics
I contacted DoDMERB and asked the same question, informing me they cannot say.

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.

NROTC Waiver: Anything I can do?

Hi all!

I've been lurking around here for several months now reading up on the DoDMERB processes, but since no existing thread has closely matched my situation, I'd thought I'd create my own thread to gather the opinions of the many informed members of this site..

Here's the deal:

After applying to the Naval Academy and NROTC programs, in October I learned that I had received a full Navy scholarship to Penn State University. However, the day after that letter arrived, I received a notice...

Why was I asked for a remedial?

During my eye exam I got perfect or better on all of my tests. At the end of the exam I asked how I did just so I wouldn't be in for any surprises and the doctor said I had perfectly healthy eyes and that I actually have 20/10 vision.

To my surprise, when I checked my status yesterday on the DODMERB website it said it needs a remedial to "Obtain all 6 standard visual acuity...

Hi, I have a question regarding the army. Can you go combat arms (infantry, artillery, etc.) if you fail both the PIP and FALANT but pass the vivid red/green color vision test?

Doctors Note along with Remedial

I recently received a Remedial Status, R.251.40-Provide Close up pictures(Burn Scars). I have skin graft scars that cover a part of my neck/shoulder(Within DoDMERB requirements, or I believe I would already be a DQ), and I think the remedial is just so they know exactly what the scars look like. Would it be beneficial to include a note from my physician that says that the burn scar would not interfere with any physical duties, even though the remedial states "Does not require physician...

What if doc doesn't complete initial exam paperwork?

DS's status on DodMETS website is COMPLETE-hold. The reason for the hold is that the contracted physician has not provided all the answers required in the paperwork after 4 contacts from Concorde this week. The exam was 12/31/15. Paperwork submitted to DodMETS on 1/4/16. I spoke with the woman who processed DS at Concorde. Does this become DS's problem at some point? If the doc doesn't hold up his end of the bargain, will DS be directed to re-do the exams at a different facility? I asked the...

SMC DODMERB???

Hi, I am going to a SMC (Virginia Tech) and have just received the DODMERB medical history and information forms. I am still awaiting a response for my scholarship so I am really confused to why I got this stuff. I was under the impression that I should only get these forms after getting an ROTC scholarship. Do you guys think that Virginia Tech is just using the same forms as DODMERB to simplify things or am I missing something here? Thanks a lot guys.

Wisdom teeth removal

Hello, I am currently a candidate for multiple service academies and ROTC. I have completed my DoDMERB exam and have been deemed qualified; however, I now need to have my wisdom teeth removed. Is this going to disqualify me? Is there something particular I need to do? Do I need to notify the SA or DoDMERB?

Thank you do your help.
