DS had his medical exam for ROTC today. He does have a history of asthma but no issues since 2011. The doctor doing his physical saw it in his records but commented that it won't be an issue since it was when he was young and has had no issues for several years. Seems very encouraging but don't really fully understand the process to know how much we can trust her comments. Thoughts? Thanks!

Scoliosis
I was diagnosed with Scoliosis when i was 15 or 16 with a very minor degree. Nothing was done to correct it as its was under 10%. The plan of action was to come in once a year and get x-rayed to see if it got worse. Instead it got better. By the time I was 18, it was completely gone. I basically outgrew it. Do I mention that I was diagnosed with Scoliosis as I no longer have it. It is in my records that I no longer have it. Its also in my records that I once had it. What do I do?

Another Waiver Question
The first time I attempted to join the military was with the Airforce in 2014.
As I went through the medical questions with the recruiter I answered Yes to the question about spinal curve/deformity (scoliosis)
The recruiter told me to get all the records I have from it and get current X-Rays done for it. My initial X-Ray in 2011 revealed a 17 degree thoracic curve and a 13 degree lumbar curve. I thought I was in the clear since anything above 20 degrees would be disqualifying. The recent...

Present Health Questionaire
I am in the NROTC college program as a freshman and was recently awarded a 4 year NROTC scholarship and now I am taking care of dodmerb. I have a qualifying dodmerb from when I applied to the naval academy last year but unfortunately didn't get in. A remedial was requested from me to do the present health questionnaire which I did and emailed to dodmerb. How long does it take for them to review it especially if my medical history has changed since my physical? It's been about 10 days since I...

Medical Questionnaire,
I'm going over the medical questionnaire used for the DoDMERB exam and have questions regarding the following 2 questions:
77. Consulted, or been treated by clinics, hospitals, physicians, healers, or other practitioners for other than minor illnesses?
78. Had any injury or illness other than those already noted?
Obviously minor illnesses don't need to be mentioned for #77, but the very next question doesn't use the adjective minor.
Does DD/DS need to put down every case of a minor...

Respiratory Question
I come from a small midwestern town and when my kids and their friends were little we had a Dr. who seemed to diagnose every single kid with "Asthma."
They all walked around with inhalers for a couple of years but seldom if ever used them.
Now two of them are applying to service academies and freaking out about "Asthma" on the medical.
We're talking about multisport varsity athletes who haven't used an inhaler since age 8 or so. No respiratory issues.
Two questions: Since this occurred...

Stress Fracture, denied appt. this year, should I report the Stress Fracture next year?
Since DoDMERB says that,
"D224.41 Stress fractures, recurrent or single episode during the past year- Stress fractures, recurrent or single episode during the past year".
Since my stress fracture occurred January 2016, should I even report this to DoDMERB for my application for next year's cycle seeing how it is only concerned with the "past year"?

Waiver Timeframe starting Now
Have to get a waiver for a concussion. Just was reported. Anyone know the timeline for it at this point in the game? Should I be worried? If I'm not having any issues, symptom free, etc., will that typically make it quicker since it's not as serious? Does it just need to be in before R day or a cut off date before that? Thanks

Waiver Time Issue
I am applying to the USMA, and have completely finished my application over a month ago; however, I ran into problems with a DoDMERB disqualification for ADHD.
I have been off of the medication for over a year and have improved my grades while off of medication, as well as scoring a 29 ACT (for more info see my last post)
My doctor, school, neurologist, and place of empoloyment are all prepared to write a letter on my behalf, but my problem is currently time left.
I am waiting on waiver...

Not entirely sure on waiver process for ROTC
Hey all, I am apologizing beforehand if this information is easily located somewhere else in this forum. I was awarded a 4 year NROTC Scholarship back in December and following the DODMERB review of my medical report, I was disqualified for Strabismus. Now when I check the DODMERB portal it says " Pending Waiver Submission/Review". I know that ROTC scholarship winners are automatically considered for a waiver, but is there something I need to do to initiate this process? Or will my NROTC...

Disqualified for Psoriasis
Hello,
Things have been quite bleak lately. Earlier this month my USMA Regional Coordinator called me to let me know that the USMA will not be doing any waivers for Psoriasis. I do not know what this means. Regardless, I had my dermatologist write a letter about the condition of my psoriasis (extremely mild, less than 1% of my body, never flares up, etc.) and I am sending the letter to my coordinator and dodmerb (Side note: can someone tell me the best way to go about that?)
Unfortunately,...

Waiver information
I have been medically disqualified and am currently awaiting a waiver decision from USAFA, USMA, and USNA. I have sent in information to DoDMERB as they were initially reviewing my file, and now that I am disqualified, do I need to send that same information to DoDMERB in order for it to be sent to the service academies? Or does the same information I sent to DoDMERB get sent to each of the three academies? Any help clarifying this is much appreciated!

Did I make a mistake, a small error, or do I have nothing to worry about
I am a 3 year AROTC scholarship winner. I just finished filling out the DODMERB. I thought everything on it was 100% until after I signed it a realized I may have made a mistake. I do not have asthma nor have I ever been dignosed however after signing it I remembered I was prescribed an inhaler 2 years ago. I never used the inhaler and on it it says use as needed. I believe the doctor may have prescribed me one for wheezing or something because I may have been sick. What should I do? I have...

I just received a conditional offer of appointment to NAPS, the thing holding me back being the medical qualification. On the DODMERB website my status is still showing as remedial requested. Shouldn't the DODMERB site say waiver requested or waiver approved by now?

Medical and eye exams complete ...now what?
DS had his eye exam and physical last week after being awarded an AROTC scholarship. He checked DODMETS site and it says incomplete? How long should it take for that to update? Should he follow up with the doctors' offices where he had his exams to make sure everything was submitted? I feel like I'm being impatient but just don't want things to take longer than they need to.
Thanks!!

Medical Records

Sports induced asthma?
During my freshman year of high school I was diagnosed with sports induced asthma. Although I only got out of breath due to being out of shape and now I can breathe just fine after running. I only used the prescribed inhaler twice since then and I still have it. I'm joining the afrotc program at my college. Will this cause any problems? Should I go back to my doctor to get it written off or something?

Am I done for?
I found out two weeks ago that I needed to fill out a remedial form. The isotretinoin/accutane questionnaire.
It needs to be signed by my Dermotoligist, but she's been on vacation the last 2 weeks, and now I found out today that she has just taken sick leave for who knows how long so she can't sign the form.
Am I done for? When does this form need to be completed?
Will this ruin my chances of getting an appointment to one of the SAs?
I would really appreciate any advice.

Shoulder surgery
I’ll confess, I’ve been lurking for the past 2 months and recently starting posting. I am amazed at how much information I’ve learned in such a short time frame from all these parents, BGOs, applicants, etc. Thank you for sharing with everyone and for being a resource for others (like me and my DS). We’ve read through many posts, old and new, but DS and myself are still unclear about a few parts of the process.
