USMA letter requesting review for waiver consideration

DS received a letter from USMA on 12/5 requesting that the Surgeon, USMA, review DS’s medical file for waiver consideration. It goes on to say to promptly reply with any instructions from the DoDMERB.

DS has followed up 3 separate times with DoDMERB as his portal has not updated since DQ on 11/21, but they state they have not received any requests from USMA.

We assumed that USMA would have requested review from DoDMERB when they sent DS his letter. A month has now passed, so curious to...

Howdy, I'm a high school junior weighing up my options and I've always dreamed of serving in the military,
I'm a computer science lover and an overachiever, and my district is very non-competitive. I feel like I have every qualification set EXCEPT the medical, for the reason stated above.
I'm allergic to both Shellfish and Tree nuts, not Anaphylactic in either case, just a stomach ache and some nausea. I do not have any visible symptoms for both shellfish and tree nuts. I have accidentally...

Redacting unrelated medical information?

DS is to send medical and pharmacy records for one specific dq item for waiver request per DodMERB letter. The medical files we received back from DR office seem to have all sorts of information that are for unrelated issues on the same pages.
We have seen tons of advice to "answer exactly what was asked and nothing more". Should he physically black out those unrelated items, or would that look like he is hiding things?

As a disclaimer, he mentioned the unrelated item on his history form...

My status on DoDMETS changed to "Complete & on hold"

What does this mean? How long will it stay here?

It's not asking for any action from me, just from the providers.

DoDMERB Guidance to Applicants and Parents from the Deputy Chief, DoDMERB

28 years in this job has afforded me the opportunity to provide this guidance. John Wooden was probably the greatest college basketball coach in history = "“Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” If the applicants don't do this themselves, I've seen the disastrous results...repeatedly. In the confines of the home, parents can and should help guide their DS/DD/GN/TG prospective applicants to navigate the pathway, but the congressional staffs, Academy...

DQ'd for mild eczema

My son gets a small rash (the size of a quarter) of dry skin in the bend of his arm during wrestling season which also corresponds to the cold weather season in Germany. It started when he started wrestling his freshman year, but is completely clear when he is not wrestling. After submitting a remedial explaining the above, he was still DQ'd. Is this just the process or what? This seems insane to get disqualified for.

My DoDMETS portal was update to "complete" on 1/8/20 and has not changed. It says "your case is complete and is currently being reviewed by a CIV case manager." Does anyone know what this means and when I should expect it to change again?

Problems with remedial exam

So last week I got a notice I needed to schedule a remidial examination to take my pulse before and after running. I called the number I was given and no one answered so I left a message. The next day I was informed my dodmets website was updated so I could schedule my exam. I call the office listed as my provider on the dodmets website and set up an appointment for next tuesday, which was today. I reported the exam as scheduled. Today I went to the urgent care I was told to go to, but was...

Disqualified!

Hi! Recently I was disqualified from dodmerb due to two factors regarding my feet. The factors weren’t anything relating to flat feet or surgical records, more towards having a record of pain and an overuse injury in my foot. I understand that in order to get a waiver it is up to the SA to consider me competitive and request a waiver. My question is, while I wait for my regional commander to notice my disqualification and email, should there be anything that I should be doing in the...

My son was diagnosed with asthma up until age 14. He had did the allergy shots for 4 or 5 years up until he was just shy of 13. We were told that because of this he would not need to take an inhaler puff daily so he just quit using the inhaler (his choice that I didn't know about until 6 months after). After he turned 13 he had one for maybe a year for precautionary measures. Knowing that he wanted to go into the service I sought out a pediatric pulmonologist to get rid of the diagnosis...

I just received a remedial with the codes 251.12 and 251.22. Will I be sent what to do next? Or should I follow the directions that the code “directory” listed? I haven’t gotten anything that tells me what the remedial is for so I can’t exactly fill out the form listed with the remedial code.

Waiver denial

Is a waiver denial the end of the road, or is there sometimes success with the appeal process?
My DS will of course lead the process I am just fact finding.
The dq is for astigmatism. His astigmatism is -3.75 and -4.0. I understood the initial DQ ( but through discussion with many different people thought there was a chance at a waiver). Thanks for any useful advice.

While filling out my DoDMERB I saw if you have ADHD. I clicked yes and talked to my parents about it. My mother told me that I was kinda diagnosed with very mild ADHD in 8th grade but only by a psychologist and not even our doctor. I don't take any medication and it really has not been a big part of my life, its like I do not even have it. But I did click yes because I thought I did have it and now my answer is locked. Any suggestions? I also clicked that I have acne when I don't but of...

Old glasses at eye exam?

NROTC MO scholarship recipient and USNA applicant here. I have my dodmerb eye exam on Monday, I followed instructions and took my contacts out more than 3 days before the exam (today), I am currently wearing my glasses but the prescription in them is about 2 years old and I’m having trouble seeing with them, especially in my right eye.

My question is how are these old glasses going to affect my eye exam and are they gonna screw me over because I don’t have an updated prescription in them...

Misdiagnosis of exercise induced asthma

My daughter earned a 4 year AROTC scholarship last month. She is a lifelong cheerleader and had issues with coughing during exercise in middle school. Her first diagnosis was exercise induced asthma and she was prescribed and inhaler. She never had trouble breathing just a cough. The inhaler didn’t really help with the cough so we went to a couple other specialists trying to figure out what was going on. Finally the ENT diagnosed her with vocal nodules. Now this diagnosis made sense. She...

USMA letter DQ final w/o waiver?

DS received letter today on portal from the Director of Admissions (below). His DQ is final with no possibility of a waiver UNLESS he wins a slot? Prep school...but “solid achievement” and character? He has one of the physical conditions listed on the non-waiverable list. It’s a long shot for the waiver request to go in, it appears, but do you think if he wins an AROTC scholarship that they’d request one, even with the condition on non-waiverable list?

What disqualifies for a pilot slot?

So I took a look at some information on the class of 2019 and saw that out of the 1,242 cadets in the class, only 502 cadets were potentially pilot qualified candidates. What caused so many cadets to be disqualified for a pilot slot? I'm wondering because if they passed the DoDMERB, I'd like to know what disqualifying conditions exist, aside from vision, that keeps people from becoming a pilot?
