Juvenile Cataract Surgery

I know a history of cataract surgery is usually not waived, but I am wondering if exceptions will be more likely to be made for a medical student as the army cannot train physicians on their own?

For any physicians on this forum this is the exact note from my ophthalmologist
1. Anisometropic Hyperopic Astigmatism
2. Satus Post Bilateral Cataract Extraction with PC/IOL extraction (in 1997)
3. Intermittent exotropia

I am applying for USNA and my dodmerb status is Pending waiver from USNA. I was DQ for history or current opacities of the lens including cataract. Has anyone seen this before and seen a waiver denied or approved. My vision is fine and i have never had or needed glasses. I passed every eye test and I believe i am 20/20 in both eyes. Also how long will i have to wait to find out my fate. Note- I would not consider myself an extremely competetive candidate. Decent grades decent sat/act played...

Lens Implant Waiver NROTC Marine Option

Hello,

I'm currently applying for the Marine Option NROTC scholarship. I have 20/20 vision in my right eye, and about 20/60 in my left. According to my recruiter, so long as one eye is 20/20, the other can be as bad as 20/100 for ROTC, so I shouldn't have any problems there. But I also have a lens implant in my left eye, that doesn't (and shouldn't) interfere at all with my ability to function, nor would it prohibit me from any kind of training etc. But it is disqualifying without a...

My son is starting the SA application process here in 11th grade now and seems to be a pretty competitive candidate. We were shocked to find out that his artificial lens and resulting very minor cataract surgery due to the eye injury sustained in one eye in childhood might be DQ material. Has anyone gotten a waiver for this? His good eye is perfect and the injured eye is corrected to 20/20 with regular contact lens which honestly he never wears except for baseball/depth perception on fly...

Eating disorder DQ policy?

Hello,

My daughter is currently a freshman in high school who is set on attending USNA. She has a 4.0 GPA, is taking all honors classes and two APs, is involved with several extracurriculars including varsity sports, scored in 99th percentile for PSATs, and overall has many positive aspects for a competitive candidate. However, she had an eating disorder (other unspecified - EDNOS) in the sixth grade when she was twelve years old. She has completely recovered with no relapse; it has already...

USAFA Waiver Request

I was recently DQ'd for D155.70 (refractive error greater than -8.00 diopters) but received a letter from USAFA saying that they were requesting a waiver. In the letter, it has a name and an email with the statement to contact them "within one week of this letter or your waiver request may be withdrawn." I was just confused and wondering what the content of this email should be. Thank you!

Hello,

My mother has civilian insurance on me and I’m eligible for a free teeth clean up and free contacts and glasses. Is there anyway I can see a civilian doctor to receive these extra benefits?

I’m a first year doing AROTC at a senior military college

I was actually in AFROTC but switched into AROTC after my first semester. I did my dodmerb some time ago and the results have finally come back.

On the dodmerb website it says one disqualification and under Airforce it’s listed as pending waiver/reviewing. For army, it just says under review. I’m already disenrolled from airforce so I’m not sure if anything is going to come of that, but I am extremely worried I’m going to get...

How long does it usually take for Concorde to review a case and forward it to dodmerb?

Currently Your Case is "Complete"

Your DoDMETS case is Complete as of 11/1/2018.

What does "Complete" mean?

You have appointment dates in the system, which is where you want to be. As soon as we begin receiving your exams, this status will change.

Your application will be automatically changed to a status of pending as of 11/##/2018 if your scheduled medical examination records have not been submitted...

Shoulder Separation needs Waiver

I recently received info from DoDMERB saying that I will need AMI (not a problem), and then a waiver as a result of a shoulder separation that I experienced a few months ago. Could this be something that would inhibit me being qualified? It is mostly healed, although I might have a bump on my shoulder permanently.

Thanks for any info.

Orthodontics

Hello All, New to all of this and after reading these forums, we have learned that orthodontics are a DQ for all SA. So, my question is how early does DS need to get the paperwork completed by the orthodontist? How early does the orthodontics need to be removed? Per the office staff, the braces are scheduled for removal in March. He had his physical on November 1, but at this point no information has been communicated and DoDMERB website...

Appendicitis?

I am currently applying to USNA, and going through the medical qualification process. In October of 2018 (2.5 months ago), I had appendicitis and had to have a laparoscopic appendectomy (three small incisions). I have remedial codes for it because they want more information from my doctor. Currently, I have returned to full activity and don't even notice it anymore. Will I be DQ'ed because of how recent it is?

How to rebut DoDMERB

My daughter recently received a single disqualification of D171.20 - Dysmenorrhea, history of. She has already requested a waiver but we were wondering what is the process of a rebuttal given the situation is not currently an issue and also, the situation was not a majot issue as she never missed a day or school or an outside activity to this normal developemental issue.

Thank you for all of you help and suggestions.

My son earned two conditional appointments by two service academies while in high school but was DQed for a diagnosis based on an incidental, nonrecurring medical event at the beginning of his junior year. Despite our efforts to submit medical evidence clearing him, his waiver was denied. It is three years later and he is a candidate with two service academies. The incident/diagnosis has never appeared..requires no special diet, no allergies and completely treatment free for any medical...

DQ’d for AFROTC, is OTS an option?

DS is a sophomore at The Citadel and was medically DQ’d for AFROTC due to eczema (prescribed a cream once, saw a 2nd dermatologist that said it was only dry skin, nevertheless, no waiver). He was told he could enlist since the AF has relaxed their standard on eczema. If someone could explain why he is DQ’d for commissioning through ROTC but not to enlist, I would be grateful. Also, could he, after graduating from college, look to pursue the officer path through OTS? Or would he be DQ’d for...

But I need to control expectations. DD has been interested in the academies for years, and she's only in 8th grade. She's a competitive distance runner who was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma when we noticed she had begun wheezing when running at the highest levels. Even without an inhaler, she would pass any military mile test with flying colors. She doesn't need an inhaler for normal exercise. We wouldn't even know about this or it be on her medical record if she wasn't an...

Potential Pilot Qualified (PPQ)

Is there anyway to check if I am potential pilot qualified on the DoDMERB site or USAFA/AFROTC sites?

There are some other threads about this, and they say that if your status is "commission qualified" you are NOT PPQ. But they are a few years old, and things may have changed.

My DODMERB status is "Qualified", but it says nothing about pilot. As far as I know (for AFROTC at least) you can't even compete for a pilot slot if your DODMERB isn't PPQ.

Thanks everyone!

Son waiting on ROTC got inflamed colon at end of football. No family history and only real symptoms were weight loss and loose stools. Had colonoscopy and they gave him steroid which seems to have cleared everything up, not sure of cause yet, could be allergy or unknown parasite. Is this a DQ issue?
