Are injuries after DoDMERB always reported?

Hello,

I was at a soccer tournament last week and I twisted my knee. I did not get it checked out until Friday because I was out of the country and did not have a chance to see my provider. The doctor had me take an X-Ray and said that it was all looking normal.

I had my follow up appointment today (Tuesday) and the doctor told me that I had just sprained my MCL and LCL and to stay on my crutches for a few more days. The swelling has gone down and I can finally begin to walk/limp on it. I...

Eczema DQ

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience getting a medical waiver for eczema? My DS has a 4-year Air Force ROTC and 4-year Naval ROTC scholarship (and we are waiting on the Army); however, he was just DQ'd by DodMERB for eczema! I am shocked, because the two times he's had eczema were so minor we almost didn't even note it on his DodMERB form! In fact, I don't even know that it was truly eczema, I think his skin just gets a little dry in the winter; now he uses moisturizing lotion and he...

Re-Applicant Process DODMERB

Good evening,

I haven’t been able to find any information on this in the forum or anywhere, so I am posting here.

I am currently a reapplicant to USNA. Will DODMERB re-use any of the information I put on my past DODMERB Questionnaire? Or will I have to fill out new forms, and they’ll only look at the new forms I fill out?

I also know you have to end up going through the DODMETS website as well, and as of now it says my application is inactive; will this be reactivated once my medical...

Hi folks -

My daughter received a four year AROTC scholarship and is scheduled to enroll at UT-Austin this fall. She just received a dodmerb eye exam and was given an anisocoria (left eye bigger, 1mm difference).

Can anyone tell me whether this is a DQ? Should she connect with the waiver process right away?

Thank you!

This is to warn the nice folks on this board who are trying to help their son or daughter to avoid DODMERB Consultants which is run by Dr. Glenn Merchant out of Colorado Springs. My wife spoke to this man regarding our son's waiver request. Dr. Merchant seemed very nice and knowledgeable and he had a reputable-looking website. We sent him money and never heard from him again. For over two months now he has not replied to our e-mails or cell phone voicemail. No one picks up his office...

First and for most this is my first time utilizing this method of research. I know that everyone here brings different experiences and information, so I wanted to start by telling you all, Thank you. I am currently awaiting the results of my medical waiver and I am extremely nervous.

I was awarded an endorsement to participate in ROTC with a 3 years Green to Gold Hip Pocket Scholarship. I assumed that once I received the endorsement that it would be smooth sailing from there, that has not...

CONTRACTED ROTC 4-year scholarship winner approaching MS3 (assessment) year. I am a varsity rugby player and just found out that in the course of my fall season and the subsequent pushing through shoulder pain during PT that I have torn both the biceps tendon and labrum in my left shoulder. There is no way to tell whether the tears come directly from rugby or whether the sport was exacerbation and the tears occurred more recently during subsequent routine PT. These tears have occurred...

Chemical Inhalants

On the DoDMERB form it asks if you have ever used "chemical inhalants." Would that include an albuterol inhaler prescribed for bronchitis?

Chemical inhalants is listed in the section with amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, narcotic drugs, marijuana, etc. so we're assuming they're not talking about a regular prescribed inhaler, correct?

DoDMERB For All Academies?

My name was recently forwarded to DoDMERB by the AFA, and I just finished setting up my appointments. I saw on the packet that the examiners were to send the medical form back to the Air Force Academy. I was wondering, do I need to take a DoDMERB for each academy I apply to, or does the one DoDMERB I am scheduled for by the AFA get sent to all the academies I'm applying to? Thank you so much!

Medically DQ - Can waiver be sought if reapplying

Good evening all. My DS received a nomination but was medically DQ due to a torn labrum almost 3 years ago (injury not the DQ). He was fully healed and released for all activities at the time of his medical exam. He is attending civilian college this fall, going to sign up for ROTC classes (does not have a ROTC scholarship as he never applied for one) and intends on reapplying to USMA. My question is this: can he pursue a waiver in anticipation of his applying as I understand the...

My DD is entering college as a freshman and was awarded a 3 year AROTC scholarship. About a month ago she completed both her Opto and Medical appointments. We just checked my DD’s DODMERB status and it has changed to DQed for D155.70 Myopia – refractive greater than -8.00 diopters (spherical equivalent). Does not meet medical standards. Because it is the weekend we are not able to call to get more information. If anyone can help with some questions I have I would greatly appreciate it...

Dyshidrotic Dermatitis (Eczema)

Hello folks,

I have had this condition (self-diagnosed) for about 2 years (on and off). No doc has ever diagnosed this condition. The symptoms are mild and only affect 3 of my fingers, and it is hardly noticeable. I only use regular hand lotion every so often. I just went through an extremely rigorous training week and this condition never hindered me whatsoever. The only negative things is that they get slightly itchy once and a while and the fingers get a bit dry and red.

I will be going...

Hello. I was looking to see if I would be okay, disqualified or can obtain a medical waiver for my medical history. I will be applying for JAG (no branch specific, I just wanna be a JAG) but wanted to know before I went through the process if I would able to join.

In November of 2016, collided with another soccer player and got the symtoms of a concussion a while after the game. This was my 3rd concussion. One in 2012, and one in 2013. All for soccer. For each concussion, I never...

Waiver denied/AFROTC... what to do?

My DS applied to USNA his senior year of high school and had the DoDMERB exam in the process. He had no medical issues addressed in the exam. However, when listing medications, he reported triamcinolone cream that he had filled only once about a year before. He had been seen by a dermatologist for a separate (non-disqualifying) issue and brought up a small, dry patch of skin on his arm that was diagnosed as eczema and given the cream. DS was DQ for atopic dermatitis after the 12th birthday....

Daughter received scholarship offers from Air Force, Army and Navy. Which of these three is most likely to offer a waiver for a tree nut allergy? We are concerned about the length of time that it may take to have a final answer on the DODMERB waiver.

DQ'd for checking yes to tree nut allergy. Although never anaphylactic and never used a epipen. Hoping for a waiver and being proactive with further testing. What will I need to prove and what are chances of getting a waiver. Not sensitive to all nuts just a few. Pretty much stay away. My Dr is excellent and wants to know what the military is looking for

Larry Mullen Dep Director DODMERB is the Greatest!

Larry Mullen the Deputy Director of DODMERB posted his e-mail address last week for all on this forum to access and ask questions. Tonight I accessed my daughter's medical status on the DODMERB website and found that yet another disqualification letter had been sent. It looked as if her waiver had been denied, though her status still read "pending submission of waiver request/review." I was frantic and confused so I e-mailed Larry and immediately got a response that he was out of the...

Looking for advice from experienced members-

DS received two DQs from DoDMERB, one for eczema after 12 and other one for use of inhaler after 13. AFROTC just denied medical waiver. After I called HQ they said that denial is for eczema and that they didn't even consider the other DQ.
The issue was a rash on his face when he was 13. His pediatrician gave me a letter commenting on the issue and his present condition that have'nt send to DoDMERB yet. Doctor is willing to modify the language if...

DoDMERB DQ

I was just wondering how strict the DoDMERB exam was. I was not able to read past 20/25 on the eye chart on my right eye, yet it says on the Naval Academy DoDMERB DQ pdf that vision not correctable to 20/20 was a dq. Is this something they will let slide? I am almost certain I could have read one line lower, and I don’t know why I didn’t in the moment (I guess I was panicking). My eye diopters are -6.00 on both eyes, and I just recently got an eye exam in the past three months.
