Hearing DQ

Hi! I intend on enrolling in Army ROTC this Fall as a freshman. I already started my dodmerb as I was initially applying to USMA, but I have a DQ for my right ear. I can only hear 25% ish in it, but my other ear makes up for it and meets Army regulations, according to my ear surgeon who did some research. I also have a letter from her, stating this. It seems I cannot find any clear answers, as the dodmerb physical deemed me medically disqualified on that end. I also have a physical anomaly...

Pending Waiver Submission/Review

I've been watching my medical status closely. Maybe twice a day . I'm kind of nervous because the medical part is the most worrisome for me.

One academy had me medically "disqualified" early this morning. Then, I just got home and found it to say "Pending Waiver Submission/Review." Does this mean the academy deems me academically qualified and wants a waiver? Or is this just the standard thing?

Thank you

Hello!
I am about to re-enter the process of applying to USNA; application opens April 1st. I was unable to complete my CFA by the deadline last year, so my application was never reviewed. When I was looking at the DoDMERB Medical Questionnaire, it says about wheezing. If I wheezed when 2 years old, should I check yes for wheezing? I have never wheezed or had any breathing problems after that.

The Navy Medical DQ Handbook states this;
(4) Current or history of asthma (493) (including...

I am wondering, are they the same for both NROTC and USNA? Meaning if I am qualified for USNA am I qualified for NROTC?

USCGA Waiver

I received a conditional appointment to USCGA. I was just informed yesterday that I need to undergo additional tests for my (disqualifying conditions) poor eyesight and mild allergy to walnuts.
Does anyone know if the Coast Guard Academy is more lenient that other service academies in terms of handing out waivers?
Does anyone know of appointees that have gotten a waiver for similar if not the same medical conditions?

3 Years Cancer Free Waiver

Hello all,

I'm a survivor of Ewing's sarcoma, a type of cancer and I am currently a freshman in college, and a cadet in AFROTC. I was diagnosed in April 2014, and finished treatment in January 2015. My tumor was very small, encapsulated, and no additional cancer cells have been found by any imaging after it was taken out originally in April 2014. It had lots of "favorable," characteristics, such as being very small, encapsulated, and not actually in my bones but rather between my skin and...

Waiver for AROTC vs. West Point

Yesterday my son was notified that he was a winner of an Army ROTC scholarship. Also yesterday (2o minutes later!) he was notified that his medical waiver for West Point was denied. One of his legs is longer than the other and he wears orthotics to correct. He still has a waiver request pending for Annapolis. Does anyone have thoughts if this medical issue will also knock him out for ROTC and USNA? This all seems crazy to me as the medical issue is so minor and so easily correctable....

Well, DoDMETS is confusing!

Our son’s DoDMET portal says “Incomplete-closed” and “All of your examination records have been received, reviewed by a Concorde case manager, and sent to DoDMERB.” I’m so confused! Is it incomplete or have they reviewed all of his examinations? I guess he needs to call, but does anyone have any insight?

Food Allergy DQ

I am in AFROTC in Florida and this semester I have been in the process of completing my DODMERB. A week ago I received the results to my DODMERB and it says I was DQ because of an allergy to shellfish. I asked my cadre to submit a waiver for it and this is the result.

Waiver Requested

So I received a Disqualification for Myopia, but it was a clerical error on the part of the Doctor and he has since sent in a statement and another eye exam redacting the disqualifying eye exam. Is this likely going to help my waiver process and is it too late to influence the process? I have been waiting on the waiver since Feb 28th. He sent in the statement the day after my waiver was requested.

Notice of Waiver Request?

Hi all - happy Easter! My son is an applicant for both AF and USMA and has been medically disqualified since December (history of shoulder instability). He has contacted his RC several times and all he can get out of them is "no waiver requested yet". My question is this - will the portals for either USMA and AF update from "disqualified" to "waiver requested" if they send his file through for a waiver consideration? Or is it possible, a waiver will be requested without him even knowing...

DodMERB/USNA dilemma

Okay. So after 3 months of waiting they finally looked at my remedials and updated my status to being DQ’d. My dilemma is that I am being DQ’d for conditions I have never had. For instance: 1 is saying that I have a history of “blacking out/fainting” and I have never fainted or “blacked out” in my life... another is having a history of migraines, again never have had migraines. The reason these two I’m assuming were brought up was because after I donated blood for the first and only time I...

Already Medically Qualified - Reporting Recent Illness

DS is a 2022 candidate and has already been medically qualified by DoDMERB. He has received an offer of appointment from USMA, as well as an NROTC Scholarship, but is waiting to hear from USAFA. After being qualified by DoDMERB, he recently had an illness that required a brief hospitalization, and he has fully recovered. Our question is, should he contact DoDMERB immediately, in order to allow as much time as possible for resolution before starting at an academy, or should he wait a week or...

Report concussion?

DS suffered from a minor concussion DODMERB qualification & we have been told by RC that qualification lasts for 2 years. DS will not be attending an SA this year but will reapply after a year of self-prep. Obviously, we don't want to have to do the whole process again, and he has fully recovered. No hospitalization, no medication. Do we tell DODMERB?

Remedial Requested but I'm not sure for what

I assume it is for my Still's heart murmur, however, it doesn't explicitly state what the remedial is for, it just says that my status as of now is "remedial requested". Will I get an email or an update soon expressing what exactly I need to do or should I call? Thanks.

Why "no strenuous exercise for 48 hours" before DoD exam?

DS scheduled his physical on the Dodmets site. When clicking on the "Important Instructions Before Exam" section, the applicant is directed to avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours before the exam. Does anyone know why this is? Under normal circumstances, DS would have gone to 4 swim practices within 48 hours, including one early in the morning on the same day as the exam. Are they referring to strenuous exercise that is not normal for the candidate, or any strenuous exercise at all? He...

vision requirements

Hello! I would like to apply for USMA and USAFA but I am extremely worried about my vision. One eye is correctable to 20/20 while the other is corrected to 20/45. I would like to go to bed school and be a psychiatrist, which I would thrill wouldn’t need perfect vision. Does anybody know what my chances are for a waiver? Waiver timeline

So I’ve read about the cases where waivers take months, sometimes a year. How common is this? My son is waiting for decisions on 2 waivers for AROTC. The timeline says 4-6 weeks, are most during this time, and we only hear about the lengthier ones? 6 weeks takes us to 4/24, just in time for May 1st decisions. Crossing my fingers!!!
