Eczema and smallpox

$

a quick question for any people with a medical background:

I have heard of a sometimes fatal condition if someone with eczema gets the smallpox vaccine. I understand that’s one of the reasons eczema is a disqualifying condition.

My question is: if you have had the smallpox vaccine before, does that mean you won’t get the fatal condition if you get the vaccine again?

Also, does the navy still administer smallpox vaccine?

Thanks.

Waiver not showing in portal

I received my waiver for USAFA a couple days ago, but my portal still shows that I'm medically disqualified. Also, on my DoDMERB portal it still says "pending waiver review". I'm assuming it's just taking a couple of days to get processed, but when I got my waiver for USNA, my portal updated at the same time. I wanna make sure the admissions board can see that I'm waived, so should I ask someone about it, or should I just wait and see if it updates?

AFROTC Penicillin Allergy

So I have been DQ'd for a history of shoulder dislocation. Luckily I am fortunate enough to have had two corrective surgeries and I am just as good as before. However, I am submitting the remedial for my waiver and I have come across a slight problem.
DoDMERB needs a clinical note from my Doctor addressing that my shoulder is fine. However, it will reveal that I have a penicillin allergy, even though in actuality I do not. My fear is that I will get DQ'd for a penicillin allergy I do...

Which ROTC most likely to give tree nut DODMERB waiver?

Daughter received scholarship offers from Air Force, Army and Navy. Which of these three is most likely to offer a waiver for a tree nut allergy? We are concerned about the length of time that it may take to have a final answer on the DODMERB waiver.

Seeing a therapist - medical repercussions?

Hi All,

So I have recently been seeing a therapist every week to help me get over a rough break up I had with a girlfriend. It’s nothing long-term—I will probably only see the therapist for a total of a month or two. This is simply so I have a professional to talk to—in no way would I be diagnosed with depression or any other long-term mental health issue. However, is seeing a therapist in itself enough of an “issue” to notify the academy or DoDMERB? I am in the process of applying, and I...

Remedials a positive sign?

So the Academies just requested a Remedial in order for me to be considered a waiver.

Is this a “positive sign” that I’m up and running for an appointment?

The wait is pretty hard. But we’re hanging tight! [emoji28]

I received my qualification letter today and I was wondering if I had to upload the letter or if DoDMERB sends it to cadet command anyway?

Question on tumor/next steps

My son received a DQ due to a brain tumor he had when he was 5 years old. There was also a request for an AMI regarding another unrelated matter that I don't see being a big issue. The tumor, however, seems to be a another story. The tumor was benign, was 100% removed, never reoccurred and is the type that rarely reoccurs, no signs of issues, side effects, or problems, and my son was medically cleared as no longer needing to have MRI's. In other words, he rec'd a clean bill of health....

When the DODMET doctor checked my eyes he said they were in excess of - 8.00 diopters. I decided to get a second opinion and that optometrist said they were NOT. How do I tell the air force they got the wrong info? Just send the real prescription to the academy?

Excema

Hi All,

I used to have mild exema when I was in elementary school and I occasionally get flare ups.
It does not interfere with my daily life in a negative way (besides the skin being dry and annoying).

A couple years ago I had a pretty bad flare up and was prescribed "desonide" by my doctor.
It is a topical steroid ointment.
Will Dodmerb DQ me for mild excema?

Thanks

Received remedials due to mistake on AMI; fixable?

I recently emailed my AMIs to DoDMERB regarding a remedial due to a past surgery (It was cleared and subsequently removed). However, I also received a disqualifier (D211.40) for my color vision. I decided to see my optometrist to get a second opinion and forwarded his findings and previous history. In one of the documents, he incorrectly stated that I had been off my Ortho-K contact lens for a month when in fact I had been off since August. I received another two remedials after the...

Vision Disqualification

I have been disqualified for having myopia (vision worse than -8.00). I went to the doctor again after being informed and got him to give me a second exam where my vision was much better than the disqualification limit. However, DODMERBB is still insisting that USMA must give me a waiver and can simply view this second exam as evidence to influence their decision.

Is that all I can do? Wait until I receive a waiver instead of getting the DQ removed entirely? My regional commander already...

Sleep paralysis waiver

I was labeled as disqualified by DODMERB on February 13, 2018 for past sleep paralysis. I was never officially diagnosed but showed symptoms in the fall of 2016. I still have not heard if a waiver will be requested on my behalf by USMA or USNA.

Will I be notified if either party does not plan to request a waiver?
Would an official statement form my doctor at this point be helpful for my case, or should I wait for a waiver to be requested?
Should I be seriously worried at this point if a...

My son had his DoDMERB exam the other day. He said they asked him about his questionnaire and did a very cursory physical. Is that it? We thought they would at least do a blood draw.

Murmur remedial questions

DS's pediatrician felt like she heard a murmur when he was about 3-4. Sent him to pediatric cardiologist. He said it was an innocent Still's murmur which is the most common innocent murmur requiring no restriction, not further follow up or appointments or anything ever. DodMets doc did not hear it at his physical. None the less DODMERB has given him a remedial to obtain a current Echo with color flow doppler. Here are my questions, what are the advantages or disadvantages to using our...

Am I Done?

As of a couple of weeks ago, I completed both my DoDMERB vision test and physical. Today I got an email from DoDMERB that instructed me to make an account on the actual DoDMERB Applicant Site to check my status, and that my medical status has been updated. I checked and it says that I am Qualified.

Is that the end of the process? Could this possibly change if they want a remedial or something, or is this my official status from now on?

USAFA Waiver

Hello,
I currently have 2 nominations to USAFA and received a medical waiver to USNA. However, I did not have any nominations to the Naval Academy but haven't heard anything from the Air Force Academy. The Air Force has not requested any documents or AMI. Should I be worried I was passed up?

Thanks

Head injury at birth

My son is trying to get into the ECP at a local military junior college. He was born at 27 weeks and had a mild stroke and brain bleed. He has had no issues his entire life and was released from his neurologist at 3. My question is if this can be medically waived? I was planning on having all of his records with us when he goes for his exam. Any info would be appreciated.
