Confusion with DQ for NROTC

Hi! I have been DQ'ed with history with a head injury (concussion from sports), history of adjustment disorder, and eyesight greater than -8.00 diopters.

The problem is I was misdiagnosed with adjustment disorder, I never had it. Along with that, when I had my eyesight checked and it came out with -8.50 diopters, I thought it was really weird since in less than 4 months from my annual eye check up it went from -6.50 diopters to -8.50 which was really alarming. I got my eyesight checked...

What is the longer part of the Remedial process? I've read that the process can take up to 4 months but what takes up the bulk of that time?

Just DQ'd for History of Anxiety - What to Do?

16 y/o dd has a principal MOC nomination, a great academic record, and stellar SAT scores. However, she saw a counselor and took Citalopram for situational anxiety intermittently for four years, ages 11-15. This occurred after her father left the family and while I was experiencing serious illnesses and surgeries that led to my job loss and bankruptcy.

As she matured she needed less and less outside help coping, and has now been off of medication and counseling for more than a year and has...

Present Health Questionnaire

I just printed and filled out one of the "Present Health Questionnaire" forms from DODMERB, and I sent it out to their HQ. I am just curious to know if there will be a change in my medical status/update, or if my service academy applications will change from "qualified - 2016" to "qualified-2017" or something of the sorts. Basically, I just want to know if i will receive confirmation that my present health has been verified. Thank you!

All,

My apologies if this is a duplication and already posted here. My daughter had her hearing test yesterday and there are concerns due to a history of mild hearing loss. Are there standards out there somewhere that show the max/min standards for the test?
I found the link below which was mentioned in a previous post a couple of years ago but it doesn't give specifics.

DoDMERB eye exam - DO said I am color blind - AROTC

All,

I have searched site and found many comments on on color blindness. I found out yesterday to my surprise and disappointment that I am color blind.

I know this is automatic DQ from some branches, but I hope this is not a show stopper for AROTC? The DO had me view six slides, of which I think two of my answers were correct - 33%. My interest is in computer science/cyber security and hope this will not kill my chance serve my country one day.

Anyone with recent color blindness...

Remedial for black eye floaters

Hello, I've recently received a remedial 150.00 for the black eye floaters I've been seeing since middle school. I want to ask will this remedial be easy to fix since I've been fine all these years and even my optometrist say they will eventually go away on their own and the eye floaters have not made any progress for 5+ years. I don't know if my eye medical records will have this included so should I ask my eye doctor to write a note saying I've been fine and will be fine?

Not entirely sure on waiver process for ROTC

Hey all, I am apologizing beforehand if this information is easily located somewhere else in this forum. I was awarded a 4 year NROTC Scholarship back in December and following the DODMERB review of my medical report, I was disqualified for Strabismus. Now when I check the DODMERB portal it says " Pending Waiver Submission/Review". I know that ROTC scholarship winners are automatically considered for a waiver, but is there something I need to do to initiate this process? Or will my NROTC...

Should I be Worried?

Hey all,

I took my DoDMERB physical 2 weeks ago and already completed my optical exam back in September of 2016 (I switched from AFROTC to AROTC at my college), and I still haven't heard anything back.

A few things that I think might be holding me up are:

My Agency on the portal still says "US Air Force CSB" and my Cycle Year says 2016. Could my switch from AFROTC to AROTC and the discrepancy between that and the portal be holding me up?

My exam needs a longer review time. The...

Physician's Letter and Medical Waivers

My son is in the process of applying for a medical waiver for the AFROTC pertaining to ADD. The TSgt has requested a letter from his physician that she can send up. His Doctor is requesting guidance on the format of how this letter should written. Does anyone have an example of one that they would share?

Pending Waiver Submission/Review by USNA?

I have been officially disqualified by DoDMERB's standards on November 21, 2016 after sending my required AMI's. Since then, my portal has said "Pending Waiver Submission/Review by USNA." I was wondering if this meant that USNA has requested a waiver for me, or they have not looked at my case yet? I was also wondering if there are any statistics on the individuals who are academically, physically qualified and have a nomination regarding a medical waiver.

Help getting a waiver

I'm applying to USAFA for the class of 2017 and I've completed my application. I have a top notch ACT, GPA, PFA scores, and I have a nomination from both my congresswoman and my senator. The only obstacle I've got now is getting a medical waiver. I've been denied twice because of childhood asthma and Raynuads syndrome. (Raynaud's is this condition where your blood vessels constrict when you get cold) The only thing is that neither condition effects me at all. The asthma hasn't bothered me...

Color blindness

My DS is colorblind to muddy reds and greens when they are together. He has no problem identifying the colors individually . It is only identifiable when given the color blind tests and he cannot see the image behind the pattern. Anyone have any knowledge if this is a major issue for USMA? Is it difficult to obtain a waiver?

Do I have a disqualifying condition? - GERD

I have GERD, which is a stomach/digestive issue. I believed it was disqualifying for the past few years, but just today I read that it is no longer disqualifying if it is controlled. I take medicine for my condition, and as such, it does not affect me at all. It is completely controlled and it does not bother me. Am I safe from disqualification?

Has anyone EVER succeeded after waiver decline?

Hello Everyone,

I am (well, was) a maritime academy ROTC cadet. I started later than most so I am not a straight out of high-school 18 year old. I have been an ROTC cadet for a year now and had my heart and mind set on commissioning and active duty. In October, I was DQ'd for history of mood disorder and hematuria. The mmod and hematuria issues are all part of my distant past. My LT's seemed confident I could get a waiver. Well, today, the last day of my first year at the academy, my...

The first step to trigger the Physical

Pardon the basic question just wanted to ensure my DS gets this started quickly. As we were talking to our FFR in NJ this weekend and he was very clear on the extremly long time its taking DODMER to now be completed from weeks a few years ago to multiple months now. And he gave us many examples of candidates that never even had their files reviewed because they ran out of time. So my question does DS simply fill out that Report of Medical History form and send it in. I was show...

my ds portal has been updated to remedial r129.99. He was told he past his hearing test. The code is asking about ear popping at altitudes and any ear infections in the last two years. Did anyone else receive this remedial? Just a bit concerned that there is an issue.

So I was disqualified for Army and Navy for

D155.40 Distant visual acuity that does not correct to an acceptable standard
and
D155.41 Distant visual acuity not correctable to 20/20 in each eye.

On my form however it says it is correctable to 20/20. I have attached the form and what the website says. Also Air Force only had one remedial that I completed but it still says remedial requested but there is nothing under it.

Has anyone had a negative experience with them? I have recently contracted the services of Dr. Merchant (DoDMERB Consultants) two weeks ago and I have to say I am very uneasy about it. I had one initial conversation with him and then since then it has been spotty, if anything. I understand he is retired and travels a lot, but he seems to have totally blown us off. My son was disqualified due to a history of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (he has been healthy and symptom free for 8+years). We...
