DQ on perforated eardrum?

$

my fiancé has a perforated eardrum. She is in her third week of Air Force basic training. Right now they just found it and put her in medical hold. She told them about the problem at the beginning and nothing else was said out of it. Did somebody miss it? What will happen to her now that she is in medical hold? She had surgeries to correct it but all the attempts failed. The hole in her ear still is there. any advice is appreciated. She just submitted a waiver yesterday.

Curious about the provider selections

My DS got his packet on Friday, and he's been assigned to a facility that's 45 minutes away on a good day, 1-1.5 hour with traffic. School starts next week and there is no way he will make it to an appointment by 4:00 in the afternoon. In addition, the photo in Google maps, showed the office as a boarded up store front. It was the right place because it had the office name on the awning. I should also mention that we live in an area with an abundance of highly acclaimed medical facilities,...

Implants

I found a similar thread but the posts were from 7 years ago, so I wanted to check for updated information.

DS is in the middle of an implant procedure that will be completed in January. The posts are in (zero compilations) but the second part (screws and teeth) will happen in January. I don't think the orthodontist form is appropriate because his braces have been off for nearly two years. He had to wait until he was 17 to get the implants (due to missing adult lateral teeth).

Should we...

Admin remedial: Pilonidal cyst

$

My son received a letter today regarding his DODMERB exam asking for administrative remedial regarding a pilonidal cyst identified during the exam. The request is to provide all applicable inpatient or outpatient records, operative reports, anesthesia records, etc. regarding the cyst. He has never had any treatment for the cyst, which he was born with and I understand is a common occurrence. Two questions: Do we just send a letter stating that there has never been treatment or need for...

Has anyone had a wrist issue ie: wrist cyst? My daughter got DQ'd for a wrist cyst that bothered her in May...But since working out more it has subsided substationally. Is it likely she could get a waiver?

shoulder separation surgery

my son 'bumped/bruised' his shoulder. Doc said if he dislocates it badly, surgery could be required to repair. Reading internet sites, recurrence or dislocation is high if he returns to play this season.

My son is strongly considering not finishing his football season to eliminate chance of surgery. He plays full speed and is a high producing player. I support my son regardless of his decision. He will serve in ROTC with or without a scholarship, then compete for AD.

My question,...

Reporting tattoo, contracted AROTC MS1

DS, a contracted AROTC MS1, decided to get a tattoo this summer. After studying the new tattoo regs, he got a rather large one on his upper arm. We will not discuss his parents opinion on this....Any how, he emailed the DoDMERB help desk asking how to report it, as we were under the impression they had to be informed. They answered very quickly, saying that since he is already medically qualified and participating in ROTC, that he should report it to his PMS upon returning to school.
I...

Very new to this... DD received "Qualified" DODMERB in Aug.
1. DD may have forgotten to include wisdom teeth removal surgery from 6th Grade in original DODMERB filing. Is there a way to check, is it necessary to mess with it?

2. She rolled her ankle training after receiving Qualified letter, saw doc, xray negative all clear after a couple weeks in a boot. Do we need to shoot any info to DODMERB?

IF DD is blessed with appointment would not be at I-Day till summer '16.
She has done...

Mild allergy induced asthma (again)

I was only ever diagnosed with exertional asthma in kindergarten. It disappeared since then. I have never been diagnosed, but in the past few years I've noticed I've developed mild allergies to cats and sometimes pollen during those particular summers.

Since it has not been officially diagnosed, what should I put down? Is this the sort of thing that disqualifies people a lot?

How often are waivers given out?

What sort of situation would warrant a waiver?

Concussion DQ

Hello,

I am applying to both the AFA and USNA, I am nearly complete with both, however, I have recently received a DQ for a Concussion (211.50) that I sustained my sophomore year during football. I never lost consciousness, but I was unable to do physical activity for 3 months. I have since made a full recovery, been cleared for all sports, and take a heavy load of AP courses. Is there anything I am able to do to get a waiver or speed up the waiver process?

Thank you for any advice,

How do you tell DODMERB that they are wrong

I was the person that posted earlier because I was disqualified for myopia- nearsightedness greater than -8.00

I found out that the DODMERB eye examiner gave me a completely incorrect prescription. The prescription that was submitted to DODMERB was -10.5/-9.5

However, my medical records show that my true prescription is -7.00/-6.50. Two different eye examiners from different locations have given me -7.00/-6.50 as my prescription and agree that -10.5/-9.5 is outrageously wrong....

Disqualifying Condition?

Hello everyone, I'm currently a cadet in AFROTC. Ever since I was 13 or so whenever I am nervous my limbs shake uncontrollably. It isn't noticeable unless I have to hold a piece of paper or stand at attention. I have had thyroid and blood test done before and nothing was wrong there. I assume my body just overreacts to stress and releases a lot of adrenaline. My sole reason for being in AFROTC is to try to earn a pilot slot. With this condition, am I wasting my time?

spondylolysis/pars stress fracture

Hey everyone I'm a sophomore in high school wanting to go to USNA, and was diagnosed with spondylolysis, or pars fractures in my L4 and L5 vertebrae. The doctors said the one on L5 will never heal but I won't have pain in it and the one on L4 should heal. The doctor also said I would be cleared to do ALL activities in 6 months. Would this DQ me or have any impact on the application process? Thanks.

Same exam sent to all 3?

So DS had and passed his DODMERB exam several weeks ago. USAFA and USNA both have received the info. His portal to USMA opened later than the other two so things there have been 2-3 weeks behind. Today USMA put on his portal that he needed to schedule the DODMERB. Will they find out he already took it and passed it from DODMERB or does he need to do something special to send it to USMA?

Medical History

Hi,

I am completing the medical history portion of DoDMerB online. I am doing this for AFROTC. My blood pressure last time I got a physical, a month ago, was 142/70. This is a little high and I have reported it. What happens if I go get my medical and my blood pressure is normal? Do they just clear me or do they have to do more tests? I just wanted to make sure I report everything correctly.

Disqualification for hearing loss exceeding medical accession standards

My son and I just found out tonight that he was disqualified for hearing loss. He has a pending application with West Point, the Army ROTC scholarship, and the Air Force Academy. To say he is disappointed is an understatement. He has completed the majority of his application, with the exception of submitting his CFA. (He is still in training to get the best possible results.) We understand that West Point will request a waiver if he is competitive, but at this point, we'd like to do...

Myopia- waiver chances?

$

I was just notified that I was DQ'd for myopia- nearsightedness greater than -8.00

My application for USNA is complete (BGO still has to submit interview write up), how likely is it that I may get a waiver? Is myopia waiverable for most people? My vision is correctable to 20/20, so if an academy does file for a waiver, how likely is it that myopia would be waived?

Is this disqualifying and if so, what do I do from here?

Today we went for a second remedial for a hip injury DS had in 7th grade. It required X-rays, which had to be done only by the Dodmerb's chosen doctor (no private option). We arrived at our assigned rural location some 3 hours later to a vacant office ( did I mention we are only 45 minutes from LA?). We find out after calling the office they had moved - 4 years ago!

We got to office number two and noone there had ever heard of Dodmerb or NROTC physicals. We assume that we come upon a...
