Hey everyone,

I'm currently a sophomore in AROTC on 4 year scholarship. Recently I began having pain in my groin area, had a MRI....turns out I have a torn labrum and my femoral head is starting to square off.
The doctor gave me 4 options...
Don't do anything
Cortisone injection
Platelet injection
Or surgery

I had the cortisone first and it decreased my pain by about 30-40%, but I can sure as hell tell it's there. I haven't ran on it yet since the cortisone, just stair stepper and bike....

Hello
My DD (potential class 2022)is a current junior. She has acne like millions of other teens-- she is worried re going to the dermatologist for treatment. I am considering asking doctor for rx creams -not pills like accutane (I saw a lot of threads on that). She also has a keloid on her skin from a prior surgery in the past. I would like to do something about that as well. She is worried about going to the doctor at ALL because she has read on the forum how even eczema can DQ a...

Myopia Waiver

I want to share DD's experience with DoDMERB and waiver experience. Everyone's situation and outcome is most likely different but at least this post might provide some hope to others that are in a similar situation.

DD received LOA from USNA in October and thought that she was pretty much set. At that point, she had not secured a nomination but it was understood that the coach would help with the nomination, if need be. Basically, she did not have a Plan B.

However, after a routine...

Recurrent Lyme Disease

Any one received a waiver for recurrent lyme disease? DS has been DQ'd for lyme disease and waiting to see if he will be eligible for a waiver. In his case, he was treated several times over a couple of year period, due to living in an area with high occurrence. He have been symptom free for over a year and has not been treated in over a year. I've search the forum and web and only find minimal information regarding lyme and was looking for anyone who has had a personal experiences like his.

Date letter sent- Disqualification

My status on DoDMERB has recently been changed to Pending Waiver Submission/Review and then the day after it said that Date letter sent- Disqualification for medical code 213.40 which is

Current or history of parasomnia, including but not limited to sleepwalking, enuresis, or night terrors after the age of 15.

Does this mean I am disqualified from NROTC? If so, can I get it waived any way?

This past fall I received waivers for both, USNA and USCGA, for a stress fracture that occurred last spring. I was accepted into both schools but I have yet to decide. But I have recently experienced symptoms very similar to my previous stress fracture but I am afraid if I go to the doctor and it is another stress fracture I will be disqualified.

Hi, I will be taking the Dodmerb soon and have a few questions about filling out the medical history forms. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

"Learning disabilities or speech problem" - When I was 4, I had a minor lisp and was in "speech therapy" once a week at school where I practiced playing word games with other kids. I don't remember much about it, but my mom says my speech was perfect by 1st grade, but I was technically still in the speech therapy through 2nd grade. My speech...

Good Afternoon, My DS had his DoDMERB medical and eye exam in August. He was disqualified for Strabismus-esotropia. He is 17 years old and I had never noticed the condition. Actually, he has never been to an eye doctor in his life and the only eye test he has ever had was for his drivers license. I was shocked that after his eye exam that he has a lazy left eye. His vision is 20/20 with no astigmatism. He is currently Pending waiver review was all the academies. Is this condition waiverable?...

Hello,

I was just wandering who I ask to receive a petition to get my DoDMERB waiver? I emailed my BGO and he said he is asking his superior to inquire, should I also email my USNA counselor to see if I can receive a petition?

Thanks

HM ... can you assist with some clarification. I suspect this has been discussed, but I'm not finding it. Here goes.

Son is a candidate, 2011. One of his pals is also. Latter attended NASS I, mine NASS III. Don't know if that is important.

His pal has already received info and has scheduled his med exam.

Mine has heard nothing.

Can you tell us how this works re: where, when, how it gets scheduled and what is the "trigger" mechanism(s) for the scheduling?

Some have said 5...

When to contact a specialist?

I recently received a remedial request for asthma and eczema after my examination.

For the eczema I had one incident 1.5 years ago that was immediately treated and haven't had any symptoms since.

For Asthma I haven't had an attack in over a decade, though I have been prescribed albuterol for wheezing only when I was sick with a cough and a fever, the last treatment being 1.5 years ago as well.

I do not currently suffer from either conditions, and I would like to when the appropriate...

Wisdom Teeth and Notifying DODMERB

Unfortunately, my dentist has told me that I need to consider getting my wisdom teeth removed- and based off of some of the posts on this site getting them out before I-day/college is a proactive step. Would this hinder/ slow down/ hurt the waiver process I already have going? What do I need to tell(or ask of) DODMERB?

Thank you!

Hey guys! By any chance does anyone know when the DODMERB website will be back up and running ? I was just notified by USAFA that they have requested a medical waiver on my behalf. Unfortunately, I can't see which tests I have to take and send back to them because I'm not able to log in. Any response is appreciated.

Herniated Disc

I am expecting to be offered a 3-year scholarship for AFROTC. I received a 95 on my PFA and can fully perform any task I am given. However, I had back surgery to correct a herniated disc, but I have letters from doctors saying I am fully recovered. Will this be a potential problem that will not get waived? Thank you.

I will give a short statement of my story and the order of events. September- West Point file complete and initial physical exam. November-remedial for history of shoulder instability/dislocation. December-disqualification. January 5th- nomination received. January 6th-waiver requested. THIS is where it gets fuzzy. January 10th- additional records and supporting documentation sent to DoDMERB. On January 21st, I received a notice on the DoDMERB site which said "Date Exam Reviewed", with no...

As a 2021 WP athlete recruit, can anyone tell me if I get a discectomy surgery for a bulging disc, if this will disqualify me? Dr, says I will be 100% in 6-8 weeks and will sign any required waiver to that fact. Thanks

USMA Color Vision DQ

DODMERB sent me a request for remedial information stating that I was disqualified from sea service after failing to pass the PIP test. I will most likely be instructed to take a red green vivid test, which I know I will pass. Is this DQ an issue for USMA since I do not intend to embark upon sea service at USMA?

DoDMERB When?

I was recently awarded a 4 year-Type 2 AFROTC scholarship. I know I have to go to the DoDMERB but I was wondering when. The recruiting flight commander who interviewed me was under the impression I should have already gone, however I was never told when/where to go (like many applicants for SA are) which is why I haven't gone.
Could anyone clarify this?
Thank you

Required Spirometry Standard to avoid DQ?

My son had to get a spirometry as a remedial by DoDMERB due to a history of childhood asthma and a positive TB test with a lung nodule when he was younger. The physician said he did fine. However, DoDMERB is now listing him as DQ'd and says "D241.30 Asthma/reactive airway disease/exercise induced bronchospasm after age 13"

We called them and supposedly the spirometry test came back with a value of FEV1/FVC=74% pre-airway dilation which "does not meet medical standards" according to a...
