Remedial Question

Ok, My son has a low pulse rate. (He is an athlete, cross country runner, soccer player). He has had yearly checkups and always healthy. This has NEVER been an issue in his life. His resting pulse rate came back too low and a remedial for an Electrocardiogram has indicated. Does anyone know if these costs are covered?

Applying to CGA, just submitted my application and created my DoDMERB account. I've got a varicocele on my left testicle. Does this automatically disqualify me? If it does, will surgical removal re-qualify me?

Shoulder question

Son was at SLE #1 and injured his shoulder. He is still having intermittent pain. He went to his Sports Med Dr this morning and after an X-ray is being referred for an MRI with 6 weeks of PT. This appears to be an automatic DQ. He has no restrictions and is able to compete in football. Does West Point waiver shoulder injuries? My heart hurts for him as this is his dream!

He has plans B, C, and D but has given up the opportunity to play college football in order to focus on being a student....

Medical Exam

Hi everyone,

I just took the physical exam portion of the DODMERB, and the doctor didn't do all of the tests (Urine test, for example). He did sign a paper from my battalion saying I was fit to take part in the ROTC program and that will be sent to Concorde, but I'm worried that I might be called back to redo the tests that he didn't perform. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Also, I was a little nervous and it took me three tries to get a good blood pressure number. Will that have a...

Adjustment Disorder

Hi all,
I am currently an MSIV AROTC cadet that is on a 3.5 year scholarship. I plan to commission this spring however, I have run into a slight roadblock. I have recently been going through a lot of stress due to my studies and role in the program. After feeling stressed out and anxious all the time for about a week I finally caved to the advice of my wife and family members to go and talk to someone. I ended up getting an appointment with a psychologist Thursday and got a lot off my...

Hello, I've finished my entire application for usna and was wondering when dodmerb will contact me. Also, should I wait to make an account until they contact me or make my account now on the dodmerb website? Thanks.

Hiding Info from DoDMERB

Good morning,

Let me preface this by saying that I lost my NROTC scholarship and my dream career to a hip surgery that DoDMERB would not clear AFTER I had completed basic training.

I know someone who I went through basic with at school with me who happens to be a good friend. We are both freshmen. He is on scholarship and has gone Bthrough the medical process. However, he had a shoulder surgery the spring after his DoDMERB exam (a few months) and did not disclose it to DoDMERB when...

Just received notification back from ATEC Surgeon General about my waiver denied for eczema after the age of 12.
Is there any other options left to pursue an appeal? Thanks.

cholecystectomy

Would a cholecystectomy and an appendectomy problem at age 15ish be an automatic DQ, or would it have possibility for a waiver? I am asking because my friend had this problem and even now, she still passes out randomly and she used to throw up a lot. I didnt know if her being a recruited athlete would impact that decision either.

So on the DoDMERB Secure Applicant Information Repository my status is as qualified. But on my USMA Candidate portal it still shows up as "Scheduled in Contract Area."

How come? Has USMA not yet received the information form DoDMERB?
When can I expect the Portal to match the Repository's status? I mean, it's only been a day since the result was posted...lol

Confusing Asthma story, DoDMERB and MEPS

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum but I think it's safe to say I've read EVERY post on here about asthma waivers and what to do. My story is kind of odd so I'm hoping I can get some of you to weigh in on it since I'm not sure where to go from here.

In short, I graduated from Penn State in May. I was applying to a Navy officer program with a pretty low key recruiter who was not very supportive of my app for a competitive program until I did really well on the OAR. I told him I had an outdated...

ADD as a young child

We have been slowly requesting medical records from my son's doctors from when he was young (< 9 yrs) to see what's in them.

In one record, when he was 4 yrs old, the doctor wrote that he had symptoms of ADD. We don't remember any conversation with that doctor about our son having ADD (for many reasons, didn't stay with that doctor even a year). In fact, we don't remember having a conversation with ANY doctor about our son having ADD. He has never taken meds, never had an IEP, never needed...

Missed a beep(hearing)

DODMERB requested a remedial from me yesterday. I have yet to find out what it is. I missed a single beep during my hearing test(the test wasn't done in silence just a probe in my ear in a loud exam room so basically it wasn't valid according to language in the DODMERB exam info). What are the chances that missing this single beep have caused a remedial? Or are remedial for something else?

How to schedule service academy DODMERB appointment

I'm not a BGO. But I am a USNA graduate. I also have two sons who graduated from USNA. I recently had a kid who is applying to USNA ask me, "How do you get scheduled for a DODMERB medical exam?"

Isn't that explained somewhere very clearly? Don't candidates get any guidance on this? Surely, there is an instruction within the CIS (Candidate Information System) that walks a candidate through it. I was amazed that he was so clueless about this. I didn't know what to tell him.

Eye exam Remedial

So I recently got a remedial for my eye exam. I have myopia greater than 8.00 so West Point is asking for axial length measurements, color topography and a dilated retinal exam checking for lattice, etc.

Currently I just finished my color topography and the dilated retinal exam and it cost me about $135 out of my own pocket.

However, for the axial length specialists are asking me to pay somewhere between 300-400 dollars. Is there anyway to offset that cost, like are there any dodmerb...

Vision for Air Force Pilots

I have always been confused about the vision requirement to be an AF pilot. So I read Near vision: uncorrected 20/40, but corrected to 20/20

So if you are 20/40, how do you correct to 20/20? By glasses? Are they saying if you are 20/40 and wear glasses you are okay? So why not 20/60 by glasses. I would assume it doesnt mean corrected by Laser surgery because from what I read you can be far worse than 20/40 and have the Laser surgery

Hurt knee - Torn ACL

DS is a sophomore in high school whose goal is to be a military officer. He is planning to apply to Service Academies and Senior Military Academies. He came hobbling home from football practice last night - and the verdict from the doctor this morning is "probable ACL tear". He'll have an MRI to confirm, with surgery once confirmed.

Will this be a disqualifying condition for him, when he applies during his senior year?

So worried and heartbroken for him.

My son's status on the DODMerb website changed today. We have not received a letter yet.

R250.10 Pending waiver review by USNA
D172.40 Absence of one or both testicles Disqualified

From what I've read, the academy will review the waiver and do one of three things:
Request additional medical info.
Grant the waiver.
Deny the waiver.

I would like to hear from anyone who has had this specific med code and what the outcome was. I believe he is a highly qualified candidate (4.0, 30 on ACT,...

NROTC DodMERB / USNA - unclear how this works

$

DS is cleared by DodMERB for USNA, and is rated Qualified. He is prayerfully awaiting an USNA admissions decision.

In the meantime, he received a 4 year NROTC scholarship. Reading through the paperwork he asked me to look over with him, it appears that he may have to go through the DodMERB process again - or are we wrong?

Bottom Line Q: Does a "Qualified" rating for USNA automatically apply to NROTC or does he go through that process again?
