DS received a dq for a broken leg just above his ankle his freshman year. The DQ came in November for a subluxation of the ankle. He is a Varsity wrestler and successfully recovered from this surgery with out any effects to his sport. He is a candidate for AF Academy, USMA, USNA and has received MOC nomination for each Academy. Since the DQ, he was awarded AFROTC Type 7 Technical Major Scholarship and as of a few days ago he was awarded AROTC 4 year Scholarship. All academies show Under...

What to disclose to a recruiter and checking medical records

Hi,

I have been interested in joining the Air Force for years now. I am 23 and have decided it is finally time. The only thing I am still unsure about is the medical history, what disqualifies you, what you can get a waiver for, and checking medical records. I have been told so many times to lie about medical history but I would rather not.

The first topic I want to know about is thyroid conditions. January of 2019 I found out I had hyperthyroidism after blood work. I got a thyroid scan...

I asked my son to send you an email but wanted to post here as well. He is being told by DoDMERB that his medical has been submitted to the Academy but the Academy says they do not have it. DoDMERB won't answer the phone and hasn't called back and when he called the Academy they bounced him around before telling him to call DoDMERB. He is panicking because it is due by the end of the week. This has been going on since last week

My application for West Point is complete except for a medical DQ. I have completed and passed my CFA and all other criteria with my seventh semester grades en-route from my high school (yay for green check marks!!!) and have received my Congressional nomination.

I was given a medical DQ for a minor concussion I had summer of 2017. I was medically cleared to continue with sports (which I did), was never unconscious, and have had no lingering symptoms. Looking at the regulations it seems to...

My DS was awarded a high school ROTC scholarship. The information on the medical board timeline is unclear. I would like to know if my DS is qualified before we accept an admissions offer to a very expensive school with a binding contract May 1st. How can we get ahead of this process? We are a current military.

Anyone Get a Waiver for a Peanut Allergy?

My son recently discovered he received a DQ because he's allergic to peanuts. It's been frustrating because he has nominations for all three academies (a primary for West Point, competitive for USNA and USAFA). Have anyone of you every heard of a candidate getting a waiver for a peanut allergy? If so, do you know what steps he/she took to help facilitate the process?

I just received notification that I was medically qualified through DoDMERB. I was wondering the timeline between being told and my portal updating which still currently reads “scheduled in contract area.”

EYE EXAM

I took my eye exam and have always had 2020 vision. During the exam however when I was asked to read out of my right eye and put my hand over my left I pressed down on my eye very hard, causing me to see very blurry letters and not be able to identify many out of my left. I identified a good amount, but it took me a second and she was very impatient and by the end I couldn’t ID them.

I asked her if I passed, and she said that she didn’t know and it was up to USMA.

Can anyone here tell me...

Marijuana use and the DoDMERB

Before I go any further, I want to state that I know I have made a grave mistake (several, in fact). I am prepared to be disqualified and I understand that my actions will have consequences. However, I would also very much like to not be disqualified and I believe that I have grown since my mistakes. That being said, I am looking for an honest appraisal of my chances of passing the DoDMERB, given four occasions of illegal drug use.

I was awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship at the...

Waiting for Remedial Eye Exam Response

I had my DODMERB physical and eye exam for USAFA in October and then there were remedials requested for my eye exam (about 20/30 uncorrectable in left eye). I had a remedial exam completed by my personal optometrist just before Thanksgiving 2019 and he said that his office faxed the results to DODMERB but there have been no updates to my DODMERB portal about results being received or anything else.

I do realize that sometimes medical qualification can be the longest wait time during the...

Removal of Disqualification Due to Medical Coding Error

My son is a service academy applicant. He received a medical disqualification for a condition he did not have. The doctor has acknowledged a coding error and provided a letter that he did not have the condition. Is there a process for DoDMERB to remove the disqualification without my son having to obtain a waiver? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Tree Nut Allergy/Under Waiver Review

I’m sure this question has been asked, but I’m hoping someone won’t mind answering if they happen to have a free minute and know the answer. Thank you in advance! Very minor tree nut allergy with no serious reaction ever, and only extremely minor reaction as a toddler. Has ingested tree nuts with no reaction as recently as this past year. Currently medically DQ’d on DODMERB. Have everything else completed, including a MOC nomination for the USAFA. How do we know if a waiver is initiated, or...

Qualified with Severe Peanut Allergy

Since I've been seeing a lot of questions regarding peanut allergies and DODMERB I thought it would be a good idea to post my story here.

I was diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy in 2006 (11.2/100 IgE with an upward trend) which was confirmed over several blood tests spanning from 2006 to 2012. I was not issued an epi-pen somehow, and just avoided peanuts for most of my life.

During my senior year of high school I started my application process for AROTC and NROTC, but given that I...

Disqualifying Medications

Does anyone know if topical retin-A cream like Tretinoin 1% is considered a systemic retinoid and therefor subject to disqualification if you've received an AROTC 4-yr scholarship? I can see that systemic retinoids are disqualifying but I can't determine whether that one is considered to fall into that category or not.

Thanks

Can you fix mistake in initial report?

Hi there.
My daughter had an issue with headaches in 2017/2018.
She saw a doctor and took medication until 4/18.
When she filled out her DoDMERB intake report she reported daily/weekly headaches that prevent you from taking test effectively. She meant that when she was under doctors care that is what her symptoms were, but she has been asymptomatic since 4/18.

She filled out the form incorrectly.
Can she change the original form?

She is being DQ'd because of it.

thanks,

SF

***Due to some computer issues, I have not completed all the answers from last night and will only respond on SA Forums and my dodmerb_SAforums@yahoo.com for the next 36 or so hours. I must keep my laptop on at work and will not be staying here all night. So, thanks for your patience and will try and accommodate folks from my IPAD at home tonight, but without giving detailed answers that require me to look at the database info.

Medically Qualified for USMA and USAFA with severe peanut allergy

I am making this post as I recently had my waiver approved for USAFA and USMA and I wanted to share my story for those who may find it helpful.

I was diagnosed with a severe peanut allergy during my freshman year of high school. My IGE levels on blood tests were off the charts and I would react to ingestion of a very small amount of peanut protein. I immediately started oral immunization therapy (OIT), eating a small but increasing amount of peanut protein each day under the direction of my...

My DODMERB site changed today to “Under DODMERB review”

Does this mean that there was something wrong with my medical status or is it just a routine thing before submission for every candidate?
