Surgery Waiver

Good afternoon,

I received maxillofacial (jaw) surgery in October '15, which is considered a disqualifier. Is there any specific information I can attain and forward to DoDMERB to support a waiver?

Additional info:
I am active duty
The surgery was completed by military Drs
Surgery was a part of orthodontics
I contacted DoDMERB and asked the same question, informing me they cannot say.

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.

I have received a DQ on a shoulder surgery I had 4 years ago which is fine now. I play college softball and am very active. But when I had surgery I had an adverse reaction to a medication. It says I am DQ'd for that as well. On the USAFA portal it says that I am medically disqualified. When will the waiver process get started? I think I am a competitive candidate, I have received one nomination and I still have my fit assessment due to logistics issue but that will be done next week....

The Stress and Waiting never ends.....

I just had to post our journey thru this whole process. It started last year when my DD won an AFROTC scholarship and went thru the DODmerb process. She first had a few remedials (expected). One turned into a DQ for a heart issue. After 2 months it was waived....YEAH! Fast forward to September. My DD hurt her back playing volleyball with her intramural team at school. She goes to doctor and they send her to physical therapist. AF won't let her participate in PT because she is under...

DoDMERB Consultants

Has anyone had a negative experience with them? I have recently contracted the services of Dr. Merchant (DoDMERB Consultants) two weeks ago and I have to say I am very uneasy about it. I had one initial conversation with him and then since then it has been spotty, if anything. I understand he is retired and travels a lot, but he seems to have totally blown us off. My son was disqualified due to a history of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (he has been healthy and symptom free for 8+years). We...

Underage Alcohol NROTC

So I was just awarded an NROTC National Scholarship for my college (Marine option). I filled out my medical forms completely honestly--which included writing that I have consumed alcohol underage.

I consumed very infrequently and don't anymore. I never lost control or was caught/got in trouble. I wrote that I consumed alcohol once, nearly 10 months ago, and that I no longer do. I submitted the forms and have taken both my optometrist appt. and my medical exam, and I believe both...

Disqualification/Waiver

I won a national 4 year AROTC scholarship back in December and am currently in the waiver process. My initial medical exam was disqualified by DODMERB and then submitted to the Army for waiver consideration. The Army (through DODMERB) asked for additional medical information and I submitted all the information to DODMERB as I was instructed. I talked with DODMERB and they said that they uploaded my information into my file for the waiver authorities. 5 days later I was disqualified again by...

Hi,

I received the NROTC scholarship and was medically disqualified. The medical folks requested additional information but I'm not sure where to send it.

Thanks!!

Second Chance Waiver??

Hello,
I am a national AROTC winner and am waiting on a medical waiver from the Army. I will be entering my freshmen year of college in the fall. If I don't get waivered now, I've been told by my college's recruiting officer that I can join the ROTC program off scholarship and they will help me get medically cleared in a couple years. What are your guys thoughts about this? How likely would I be to get a waiver after being in the program for a couple years even though I was denied a waiver...

Hi,
I am an National Army ROTC Scholarship Winner
My Status on the DoDMERB Page is Currently:

Status:Pending Waiver Submission/Review

I was DQ'd for
D174.80 Renal calculus

(Had a single Kidney Stone in September-October 2013)

Prior to applying for Army ROTC I did research on Kidney Stones and Joining to see what I was facing prior to applying. What I read was: (Army Regulation 40–501, 2-15)

"h. Current or history of urolithiasis (592) within the preceding 12 months does not...

Do I need to be keeping records?

When I went through the medical qualification process for ROTC eons ago, I'm pretty sure I didn't have any medical records. My family moved a lot and I wouldn't have even had a dr.'s name to give for records. I did have an immunization record.

I have kids talking about wanting to apply to a service academy, the oldest is twelve so we have a few years. Are they going to need copies of medical records, names of dr.'s, etc? We've moved a few times and they haven't exactly had one primary...

Does anyone know what the official notification process is for decision on waiver? My son is currently under waiver review by the USMC for a NROTC (Marine Option) scholarship. Will they update the DoDMERB website with that information, or will it come in the form of a letter or email? Thank you.

Renewing DoDMERB?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a student in the ROTC program and I just recently finished my freshman year of college. I took the DoDMERB exam last year during my senior year of high school. Do I have to renew my DoDMERB throughout college or it is not until right before commissioning where I take another medical exam?

Thank you.

Pneumonia

Hi all! So I was reviewing the DQs, and I saw wheezing medication. I'm not asthmatic nor do I have breathing issues. But I came down with a nasty bout of bronchitis this year which turned into pneumonia, and took about 1.5-2 weeks to clear up. Is the pill medication I took for this disqualifying?

When will dodmerb contact me?

Hello, I've finished my entire application for usna and was wondering when dodmerb will contact me. Also, should I wait to make an account until they contact me or make my account now on the dodmerb website? Thanks.

Non Scholarship Dodmerb Exam?

Hi all. So I'm a rising freshmen at Virginia Tech that will be participating in AFROTC (non scholarship). Today I started filling out the required AFROTC forms and I read somewhere "If you are not on scholarship, or have not completed a DODMERB Physical, you will be scheduled for one shortly after you arrive to campus. In order to do so, Please complete the DODMETS Application (Print and fill out), and return to the NCO office". Now, I was under the impression that only cadets on...

how to complete History Form when anticipating a DQ

Just beginning the DODMERB process, and since we're expecting a DQ, and that son will require a waiver, need to make sure we do this correctly. I say "we" because, even though this is HIS application, the DODMERB process seems to be a minefield and I feel like this is one area where he could use some help to prevent future problems.

As I understand it, any positive response to a "Have you ever had" question for anything on the list of "history of" disqualifying issues is an automatic DQ,...

AFROTC Detached Retina

I will be starting college in August and I've decided I want to pursue AFROTC (I am not on scholarship). However, I am a bit concerned over a medical issue I previously had that may disqualify me. When I was two weeks old I had to have surgery to reattach my retina's. Other than those two surgeries, my vision has been stable (I need to wear glasses, but fine otherwise). I've done multiple contact sports (doctors were totally fine with it) and have had no issues. Otherwise, I don't see...

Mistake Made on Medical History

To sum up my issue, I was filling out the medical history survey on my phone and I accidentally and unknowingly checked "yes" for back pain. I tried to go back and correct the mistake but the system will not let me do so. Is there any way I can fix this mistake or let someone know that this is an error on my end?

Past Acne and Accurate use

So I had mild - severe acne about a year and a half ago and was put on accutane to clear it up. The acne went away and I only have a few scars on my face and back now. Could I get a dq for this even though I haven't had bad acne now for over a year? Thanks.

Also, I've obviously been off accutane for over eight weeks so accutane use wouldn't be a problem right?
